Final Design Statement

The Final Design: Unzip It
UNZIP IT are the pants for below-the-knee amputees that allow easy access to a prosthetic without damaging your clothes. With UNZIP IT, unzip various sections to customize your clothing based on any weather or activity! With the sections color-blocked, it's easy to recognize the various lengths while following trendy fashion.

Coming up with the solution
In this iteration phase, a major component was the mechanics for leveling the excess coffee grounds. Ideas from pivoting to automated springs were tested but ultimately a slider was choses based on function and aesthetic choices.

Fabrication
The final pants were hand-sewn and dyed white denim with waterproof zippers. Each section of green was dyed with RIT's fabric dye. The pants were first sewn, then the zipper details were attached, and lastly dyed each part individually.

Storyboard
Unzip has 3 set lengths for the wearer to adjust their preferred length whenever and wherever. By locating the zipper on the inside of the pant leg, simply unzip going clockwise around your leg, and slide off the excess fabric.
